TELL US YOUR LOVE STORY
How did you meet?
Mannnyyyy years ago! 10 to be exact – in a stinky old nightclub hahaha.
I was friends with his brother for years prior, and he introduced us one night – we hit it off from there.
How did he put a ring on it?
The cutest proposal ever!!! I came home the night before my birthday (June 3rd 2015) to the entry wall of our house hand painted with –
Don’t worry about the paint on the wall.
This is a one-time thing after all.
I love you to the moon and back,
So babe, will you marry me??
(in his abbreviated, laid back wording haha)
It stayed there only just until recently when we decided to rent out our house and it had to go.
WHERE DID YOU DRAW INSPIRATION FROM?
I’m an extremely creative person. I work in the fashion/design industry – so I would have to say i know what I like, and knew exactly what I wanted for my wedding day for a long time. Pinterest was a huge help!!!
WHAT WAS YOUR WEDDING THEME & STYLE?
Look and feel - I really wanted to do quite formal/classic in appearance – white laces and crisp black suits. Our dress code on the invitations was ‘black tie’ so it was really nice to see everyone dress up for our special day.
In saying that, it was such a big party also. We chose to do cocktail, not formal sit-down, with the formalities over before 8:30. Everyone was definitely on the way to happy drunk and rocking the dance floor even well before then. (I would say Simon and I are known for throwing a good party, so it was only fitting that we followed through on our wedding day also.
WHAT MADE THE WEDDING PERSONAL TO YOU?
I guess just sharing it with all our nearest and dearest. There wasn’t a dry eye at the ceremony, even Simon crying as soon as my car pulled up. Our wedding was very untraditional. We had a quirking poem to start with (all thanks to our amazing celebrant Zoe starr), and I had asked my brother to stand by my side along with my bridesmaids.
WHAT WERE YOU MOST NERVOUS OR EXCITED ABOUT?
Oh I cant even tell you how nervous I was – not just on the day, but the few weeks leading up to it. I was so nervous about walking down the aisle and saying our vows – I just didn’t want to make a mistake. Balling my eyes out the whole time walking down, even more so when I saw Simon crying also – he does not cry! I’ve maybe seen him cry once before in the 10 years we have been together!!
And it didn’t help that we had a disaster with one of the bridesmaids dresses about 1 hour before leaving my family home. The zip broke – it turned frantic, so I feel like it was all a blur from there. We all raced to the dress alterations ladies house (Jay – she was my life saver not only on the day, but on countless times leading up). She had the needle and thread ready to go when we pulled up, and she sewed Alycia into the dress.
Once the ceremony had finished, it turned to excitement and I was ready to party! So much love and laughter!!
DID YOU DIY ANY ELEMENTS?
Pretty much everything! As mentioned before, I love getting creative and I’ve been a designer in the past, so pretty much everything I did my self – from the invites and stationary, to the props and decorations. I was also going to do all the flowers, but I let go of that one when I found Daisy from ‘AsDaisyDoes’, she is incredible and so so so talented.
NOW THE MOST IMPORTANT PART - THE DRESS!
Tell us about your dress?
Don’t even get me started! I can’t stop talking, or thinking about how incredible my dress was. Again – I definitely have my own taste and style, so I knew exactly what kind of dress I wanted – sleeves and backless..
It was the 1st dress I picked off the rack and tried on at Soho Bride in Geelong. I tried it on and I fell in love straight away. I changed it slightly in the fitting stages – with sleeves added (which was an option for this dress), and creating more of a fitting look around my waist and bottom. The dress was fully embellished lace, and lined in silk. The hem and sleeve opening was finished with the scalloped edge of the lace, it just looked so beautiful and elegant.
The dress was topped with an incredible long mesh train – it was divine!
WHO WAS THE DESIGNER? Marquise Bridal
WHERE WHERE YOUR BRIDESMAID DRESSES FROM?
I had 4 different bridesmaids dress, all in white lace. Initially I looked for all the same dresses, but they all have such different body shapes. I really wanted to make sure they all felt comfortable and beautiful – so different dresses it was. One of my bridesmaids was 22 weeks pregnant at the time, so her body changed quite a bit through the process.
1st – Thurley/ 2nd – For Love & Lemons / 3rd – Alice Mccall / 4th – Grace and Hart
WHERE WERE THE GROOM & GROOMSMEN SUITS FROM?
All matching black suits, with white shirts – from Rodger David in Geelong.
WHAT WAS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT FROM YOUR DAY?
It was all so memorable. But I just remember standing at the alter with Simon, holding hands while the ceremony was happening – and being so in the moment. I felt like it was just him and I, both of us so happy and crying. Everything felt so silent, even though it wasn’t.
WHAT DOES MARRIAGE MEAN TO YOU?
To be honest, Ive never really cared for marriage – I mean, of course we wanted to marry each other, but it wasn’t most important to us. Madly in love and concentrating on other aspects of our lives was what we did for such a long time.
Simon and I have been together for 10 years – we’ve built our careers together, Simon runs his own successful business, we have a house and an investment property together, we’ve renovated and we’ve travelled. I guess those things came first for us – setting ourselves up together and ensuring we were going to be ok in life.
It came out of no where when Simon proposed. But the timing was perfect and we couldn’t be happier to now say we have ticked off marriage as well.
Something New? My wedding dress!!!
Something Old?/Something Borrowed? I wore my great great grandmothers engagement ring. My mum wore it at her wedding, her mum wore it at her wedding, and her mum’s mum wore it at her wedding!
It wasn’t the most beautiful wedding ring, but it was definitely something special to wear it and have with me.
Something Blue? I wore blue sapphire tear drop earrings.
Anything words of wisdom you can pass onto future brides & grooms? Be in the moment, Keep grabbing each other throughout the night so you’re experiencing everything together, (its easy to get occupied else wear). Time flies when you’re having fun! What doesn’t go to plan on the day wont be noticed by anyone, they didn’t know it was suppose to happen in the first place.
