LOVE // RACHAEL & DUNCAN
12th of September 2018 Wedding in Italy
18th of November 2018 Official Ceremony in Sydney
68 to Italy and our two friends and their children in Sydney
We had a three day wedding celebration in the romantic village of Laglio, the first day was a welcome party at a gorgeous lakeside restaurant with floor to ceiling windows, you almost felt like you were on the lake. The following day, we got married at Relais Villa Vittoria, which is an enchanting and charming hotel located on the banks of Laglio. We had our ceremony on the lawn with spectacular views across the lake, it was the most romantic day, I felt like I was in a fairytale! We arranged a boat to take us and our photographer to a beautiful old church where we took a some photographs and enjoyed a moment together. The following day, we had a poolside party at Relais Villa Vittoria where we could all relax and hang out together.
Our official ceremony was held a couple of months later at Arthur McElhone Park at the front of Elizabeth Bay House, we had a short romantic ceremony with two of our friends and their children standing in as our witness, it was so exciting and romantic to do it all again!
Jen Wilding was the lady behind the lens at Lake Como from This Is For Keeps and we loved the results. Jen was so amazing, nothing was staged and she captured the magical feeling of every moment she photographed. Going through our photos is like being transported back to our wedding day in lake.
Frank Farrugia shot our ceremony, the feels were completely different to our Lake Como wedding day, I was so much more relaxed and had more fun with the camera and loved playing around with the kids. Penelope is learning Ballet and every picture taken, she is in a Ballet pose, she is so hilarious!
TELL US YOUR LOVE STORY?
We met at the Blues festival in Byron Bay. I approached Duncan and asked him to put me on his shoulders, after he let me down and I insisted on buying him a drink & we spent the evening having such great fun, after about a year of dating, I moved from the Gold Coast to Sydney.
HOW DID HE PUT A RING ON IT?
Last year, we travelled to Africa for 4 weeks, we were at Ngorogoro crater after coming back from an incredible day on a private Safari, we had set off early and took a breakfast picnic, it was on of the most magical days ever.
We were taking a stroll around our resort at Ngorogoro crater looking for a spot to spend for sunset when Duncan asked our guide to take a photo and dropped down on one knee and asked me to marry him, I, of course said yes and was on cloud 9 for months!
WHAT WAS YOUR WEDDING THEME AND STYLE?
Our wedding style was relaxed elegance with a romantic garden theme, our ceremony was outside in the garden our looking the lake, followed by champagne and canapés with live piano and cello on the terrace and dinner under trellis followed by dancing in ‘the cave’ til the early hours. We all had so much fun. I really didn’t want the night to end.
WHAT MADE THE WEDDING PERSONAL TO YOU?
A lot of our friends played a huge part of our wedding which was so special to us. My best friend Clara was our celebrant and we were her first marriage, she did the most incredible job and made our ceremony so personal and romantic to us. My very special girlfriend Michelle from Savvy Brides (where I bought my dress) was also a guest and the hotels steamer gave up as soon as I started to get my dress ready. I text Michelle in a panic and she was straight up with her travel steamer which saved the day!! My girlfriend Kristina from Perth did a fabulous job of my hair and my girlfriend Erica who is a Make Up Artist travelled from Singapore and made me look beautiful. It was so much fun getting ready with all my girls!
WHAT WERE YOU MOST EXCITED / NERVOUS ABOUT?
Everyone of our guests travelled overseas to attend our wedding which was really special, I was so nervous that flights, transfers and hotels worked out ok as I played a big part in organising a lot of travel and giving tips and recommendations. Everyone’s travel worked out without a hiccup which was a great blessing!
NOW, THE MOST IMPORTANT PART - THE DRESS!
TELL US ABOUT YOUR WEDDING DRESS?
I remember the moment I tried on Keira wedding dress by Georgia The Label, I felt like a princess! It definitely was not the dress I would have picked to try on as I didn’t think I would like the fuss of having so much tulle. My friends convinced me to try it on and as soon as I had it on, I didn’t want to get out of it! The silk faille bodice became part of me, it was so soft, chic and incredibly comfortable. The tulle pin tuck skirt was so ethereal and graceful. I absolutely adored the dress and felt so beautiful on my wedding day.
WHO WAS THE DESIGNER?
The very talented Georgia for Georgia The Label designed the beautiful Keira dress. I was very lucky to spend a lot of time with Georgia during my fittings, she is brilliant and so kind to work with. I received so many outstanding compliments on the dress all thanks to her amazing work, I couldn’t have asked for a better designer! I am really going to miss meeting up with her now my wedding is over.
WHERE WERE YOUR BRIDESMAID DRESSES FROM?
I had one bridesmaid (my sister Jan) and she got her dress from a lovely boutique in Ireland. It was royal blue and she looked stunning in it, she has the most amazing blue eyes and they really popped in that dress.
WHERE WERE THE GROOM & GROOMSMEN SUITS FROM?
The Groom wore a slim fit sand jacket and pants with a white shirt and the groomsmen wore navy pants, white shirt and a slim fit sand jacket all from MJ Bale. Georgia made me little silk faille pocket squares from the same silk as the bodice of my dress.
WHAT WAS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT FROM YOUR DAY?
The most memorable moment of the day was getting lost in the moment with Duncan during our ceremony (in the middle of my vows) I became totally speechless engaged in his eyes and forgot I was supposed to be repeating Clara while she read out my vows. It was such an immense feeling that made our day so special.
WHAT DOES MARRIAGE MEAN TO YOU?
‘Love is a verb, it’s all the actions of doing, showing and telling the person you love that you support, respect and appreciate all the moments that make life worthwhile’
My husband wrote that quote to me a couple of months before our wedding and I really resonate with it in our relationship, I feel that’s exactly what marriage is.
SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING NEW? SOMETHING BORROWED? & SOMETHING BLUE?
I didn’t do any of the above traditions, although I was very lucky to spend a lot of time with Clara working out our ceremony. As we didn’t exchange rings during our ceremony, we chose hand fasting, Duncan and I choose three colours based on their meaning. My sister read out a beautiful reading as Clara did the hand fasting, it was so intimate to us.
ANY WORDS OF WISDOM YOU CAN PASS ONTO FUTURE BRIDES & GROOMS?
I guess at the beginning, I over thought the guest list, location and pleasing everyone and it wasn’t long before I realised you can’t make everyone happy and nothing will go exactly the way you plan it! We kept it simple and just the way what we wanted and it suddenly became very easy and enjoyable! I didn’t get caught up in the little things, don’t worry about it, it will be beautiful and memorable no matter what!
