TELL US YOUR LOVE STORY
How did you meet?
The universe always had a plan for us. We were in each others lives from an early age although we didn’t know each other well. We had the same mutual friends — the Haskins — and we went to the same parties, engagements and weddings. It wasn’t until a few chance-encounters that the stars finally aligned & sparks were lit.
It only took three months for Adrian to tell me he loved me, right after we got home from a family holiday in Hat Head NSW. I didn’t skip a beat and said ‘I love you’ right back. I could see the beautiful bond forming between Adrian and my son Harry, and sometimes when I watched them interact; tears of happiness formed in my eyes. Adrian is always showing Harry and I how much he adores and really cares for us. We have formed a tight family unit filled to the brim with love.
How did he put a ring on it?
Adrian wanted to include Harry in his proposal to me so he picked Mother’s Day as the special day. The original plan was to have a picnic and propose to me then, but due to rain and much to Adrian’s disappointment, I refused to venture outdoors so we stayed home. Adrian gave Harry a box to give to his mummy. Thinking it was a mother’s day gift from Harry, I opened it — and then as I realised what it was I threw it across the room, in surprise! Adrian nervously got down on one knee, and of course, I said yes (and cried a lot)!
WHERE DID YOU DRAW INSPIRATION FROM?
I spent many months pouring through endless images on Pinterest. It’s an incredible treasure trove of wedding inspiration. I had always dreamed of one day getting married since I was a little girl so had a pretty good idea of what I wanted and what I liked.
WHAT WAS YOUR WEDDING THEME & STYLE?
We didn’t really have a theme but we both love the ocean and wanted to get married somewhere with beautiful water views in Sydney. I wanted to incorporate my love of classic/timeless styling, white flowers, greenery, and lots of simple candles into our day. Dunbar House was the most beautiful venue which suited my vision to a tee. It’s an elegant mix of classic design with a hint of contemporary style. I loved that the beautiful french doors opened onto the big wrap-around balcony overlooking the exclusive Watsons Bay waterfront. The views at sunset were so romantic and the way the light played on the lapping water was nothing but magical. The venue and surrounds were nothing short of breathtaking.
WHAT MADE THE WEDDING PERSONAL TO YOU?
There were a few really personal elements in our wedding. Firstly, the fact that all the people we love and care about were there to help us celebrate our love.
Also, my sister organised a few family members and friends to sing and play a very sentimental song - ‘Runaway’ by The Corrs. There were three extremely talented singers (in harmony), a guitarist, violinist and drummer. I used to sing this song in the car with my mum and sister a lot when I was little. It was a complete surprise to everyone and I couldn’t hold back the emotional tears, it was so special.
The Bridesmaids had also taught the bridal party and friends a dance to Adrian’s favourite song ‘Crush’ by Jennifer Paige! They surprised him on the night with a flashmob. It was so much fun!
DID YOU DIY ANY ELEMENTS?
My sister Courtney from Sugar Plum Fairy Cakes made our incredible wedding cake. It was so stunningly gorgeous and tasted amazing - a mix of vanilla, white chocolate, raspberry, meringue and buttercream icing.
NOW THE MOST IMPORTANT PART - THE DRESS!
WHO WAS THE DESIGNER? Wildflower by Malachi Empire
I had it custom made - the design is called ‘Marissa’. It was a blush/nude underlay with ivory lace and silk tulle overlay. For me it was the most romantic dress in the world!
WHAT WERE YOU MOST NERVOUS OR EXCITED ABOUT?
Both of us don’t love being the centre of attention so we were both a little bit nervous about that aspect of the day. We had spent a few months learning a wedding dance to ‘All night long’ by Lionel Richie. It was very challenging, particularly for Adrian who had never danced before, and included a few complicated lifts and moves! We had a quick practice on the night and managed to pull it off in the end!
WHAT WAS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT FROM YOUR DAY?
There are too many to list!
Right after the ceremony, just after we had walked back up the aisle in celebration of just getting married, there was a random downpour of rain! It only lasted for about 20 seconds but everyone ran in laughter to the safety of the Dunbar House verandah. Luckily it cleared up really quickly making way for the most incredible sunset and lighting.
WHAT DOES MARRIAGE MEAN TO YOU?
For us, marriage symbolises our commitment to one another and to little Harry. It means we’ll support each other through all the ups and downs & the good days & the bad days. Our relationship is built on trust, & we can’t imagine our lives without the other in it. Marriage is the ultimate commitment, & our wedding was our opportunity to promise to love each other forever.
Something New? My Stuart Weitzman shoes! They were a dreamy metallic silver/gold
Something Old? Nothing I wore was old!
Something Borrowed? I borrowed my veil from a beautiful friend
Something Blue? I didn’t wear anything blue either! But both Adrian and Harry’s suit jackets were blue if that counts!
ANY WORDS OF WISOM YOU CAN PASS ONTO FUTURE BRIDES & GROOMS?
Try to enjoy the planning process and don’t stress too much! It’s such a special time and should be fun! xxx
