OUR TIPS // Bridesmaid Dresses Trends

You think the hardest, most time consuming decision will be your wedding dress, and for some it is. But choosing bridesmaid dresses for your sister and friends can sometime be more daunting.  You have a vision of your wedding including how you want your bridal party to look, but you also have to keep in mind your  bridal parties opinions, and personal preference. The wonderful thing is that trends for bridesmaid dresses are becoming chicer and more individual than ever before, so let's explore.

MIX & MATCH jewel toned dresses

Here is the thing, with a bridal party you have to consider multiple body shapes, multiple fashion preference, multiple price points and multiple opinions.  Allowing individually can create a magical effect by mixing colours, prints and silhouettes in complementing tones.  Jewel tones like these slip dresses from Cloud Hunter in particular are a vibrant option.

For a chic, cohesive and modern look, brides are choosing off-white bridesmaid dresses for their bridal party. A decade ago, wearing white to a wedding was a strict no no (still is for guests!) but that all changed when Pippa Middleton wore that stunning off white Alexander McQueen dress as bridesmaid to her sister, the now Duchess of Cambridge.  Look to brands like Coco & Lola and Shona Joy for these of white bridesmaid dresses.

short bridesmaid dresses

For a completely modern look, short fashion dresses from designers such as Thurley and Zimmermann can be a wonderful choice for your bridesmaids.  Choosing to mix and match styles will give a relaxed feel to your bridal party and are perfect for those balmy Australian summer nights.

Bridesmaid dresses featuring prints can be a wonderful way to add a pop of excitement and colour to your bridal party.  The key is to find the right print. Do you want a dress that is bold or subtle - in both the colour & style of the print? Our favourites include dresses from White RunwayLove Honor & Review.  Maybe a floral design is what you are after to compliment your spring outdoor wedding? and also think about styling your print with your floral bouquets for a beautiful look.

styling a bridesmaid with a baby bump

There is always a possibility that one of your bridesmaids might be pregnant on your wedding day, but with today's fashionable dress options, there are a tonne of options to cater a baby bump of any size.  Brands like Two Birds Bridesmaids have wonderful convertible look grecian style bridesmaids dresses, and we also love the Belle lace top and skirt by Grace Loves Lace.

We have previously talked about our love of a non traditional wedding dress so why not also consider some non traditional bridesmaid outfits for some or all of your bridesmaids? We particularly love the Two Birds Jumpsuit where your bridesmaids can style the tops to their personal liking.

You can't fault a black dress for creating an elegant look, and that is exactly what black bridesmaid dresses achieve. Choosing either short or long dresses, and mixing styles will allow you to have a formal event, or a more cocktail hour vibe.  Look for black bridesmaid dress options with Alice McCallVeronika Maine & White Runway.
